This tradition was revived in 1947 by Harry Truman. The word “pardon” was first used in 1987 by Ronald Reagan. Every year the president gives pardon to one bird and her alternate (if the first one is not capable of maintain her duties).

1999 – Harry from petting zoo in Fairfax, Virginia

Till 2004 all the National Thanksgiving Turkeys were sent to Kidwell Farm in Frying Pan Park in Nerndon, Virginia. The last three years they were sent to Disneyland, California.
